1911 Model "O" Frame Handguns Armorer's School

Handguns - 1911 Frames

Each graduate will gain a complete understanding of the design theory, nomenclature, dynamics, detailed disassembly, assembly, maintenance and trouble shooting of the Colt "O" frame/1911 pistols.

Day One (All courses begin at 0800)
1 hour Brief history, design, nomenclature, variants, features and controls
1 hour Field disassembly, reassembly and function check
1 hour Theory and cycle of operation / Fire control theory
2 hours Complete detailed disassembly and parts identification
2 hours Reassembly, inspections and function checks
1 hour Maintenance and trouble shooting
Day Two (All courses begin at 0800)
1 hour Extractor running, adjustment 7 fitting
1 hour Fitting and safety check of thumb safety
1 hour Fitting and safety check of grip safety
1 hour Tuning & polishing of internal parts & frame
1 hour WRITTEN TEST
1 hour Test evaluations and Question & Answer session
30 min TEST - disassembly of pistol
1 hour TEST - reassembly of pistol, final inspection and function chec
30 min Instructor / Course evaluation
  • Graduation Requirements: Students must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: disassembly, reassembly, identification of mechanical deficiencies and corrective actions. The student must also attain a score of 70% or better on the Armorer Written Test.
  • Certification: 3 year model specific Colt Law Enforcement Armorer
  • Cost: 2011: $350.00 per student * 2012 $375.00 per student.
  • Payment: Checks and Department Purchase Orders made payable to Colt Defense, LLC.

  • Eligibility: Active Law Enforcement, Corrections, Military, Nuclear Security Only.
  • Resources: Colt will provide all necessary tools and firearms to conduct training and each graduate will receive a new Armorer Manual.
  • Enrollment: 2011: Enrollment is a coordinated with the host agency and Colt Law Enforcement Training coordinator. 2012 All enrollment will be processed by Colt.
